Namakkal is a growing industrial town, mainly poultry, agriculture and transport. It has a rich and varied past, having been an important holding of the myriad rulers through the centuries, each leaving their unique mark – be it the Namagiri fort after which the city is named or the rock temple of Sri Lakshminarasimha. It is also the home of the famous Anjineya temple with a life size statue of the deity measuring about 18 feet.
