Ice Rental 4x4

Gave me clunker and forced me to put a $2500 deposit then refused to lift it. My card has travel insurance but I cant file a claim because they refuse to send me proof of damage or any repair bills. They dont even repair the cars, they just steal your money. It also took 90 mins to get the car, and they held me for nearly an hour at drop off holding me hostage trying to get more money out of me. I nearly missed by flight. I will never use a budget company again. Not worth the hassle. See dozens of similar reviews here and on google.

Rented a 2016 Toyota RAV4 (Manual) and it was hell of a solid diesel car. Rent was also affordable. One thing I don't liked is less options available or inventory as my friend specifically wanted to a Rent a Suzuki Jimny but Ice Rentals 4x4 doesnt have one available so he had to come up with a Suzuki Grand Vitara. Overall it was an amazing experience.

Rented a Suzuki 4x4 for a week Feb 2022 (we soon realised the SUV was 6 years old and had already covered 300,000+ km). There had been a huge snow storm in Iceland the day we landed. The representative only had room for 1 member of our group of 4 in the shuttle bus to the office, which seemed disorganised and was frustrating, as we'd hoped to inspect the car and contract together. The check-in process was hurried and felt as though the employee responsible, was only concerned with getting the next customer sorted. At no point were we offered the option of studded tires (which are, in fact, an option!), only to later realise that EVERYONE has these there. The company insisted that "studded tires wouldn't make much difference" despite us emailing a day later to confirm whether omitting the studs was intentional. Our car struggled hugely on the icy roads and wasn't able to drive on fresh, hard-packed snow - something that tiny Corsas and other SUVs seemed to be doing just fine. We drove everywhere at practically half the speed, lost a lot of time and had to cut quite a few activities out of our itinerary. The icing on the cake was getting stuck on three separate occasions (including in the middle of a storm) and needing to buy a shovel. Please note: the company didn't provide us with any extra equipment despite renting us a car in winter season (we got a 5cm wide hand-held scraper, which seemed ironic). Overall a terrible experience - would not rent again. I understand Icerental are a cheaper option, but, safety first. Not offering us the choice of upgrading to better equipment (which we would have happily paid for), then insisting we choose the more expenive insurance cover (which we declined and fortunately didn't need) was negligent and irresponsible. We will be putting in a formal complaint.
