About Animae

Animae is an Asian-inspired restaurant on Pacific Highway in Downtown San Diego, presenting itself as a wagyu steakhouse with a fine-dining approach. The menu centres on coal-fired and robata-grilled dishes, Japanese A5 wagyu and flavours drawn from Southeast Asia. The kitchen is led by executive chef Tara Monsod, whose cooking has received James Beard recognition according to the restaurant. Animae was also named among San Diego Magazine's best restaurants in the city.
